CONTACT: 02/06/07 REGIONAL TOWN MEETING ANNOUNCED [ Read the PDF version of this press release here ] Pittsburgh, PA - What will your community look like in the future? How many people will live here? How many new jobs will there be - and where? Discuss these and other issues facing our communities and our region in the future at the first-ever Regional Town Meeting Web Conference for Southwestern Pennsylvania’s new long range plan on Monday, February 12, 2007 from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. This plan, called Project Region: The Southwestern Pennsylvania Plan, is one mechanism for connecting our region’s vision – to be recognized as one of the best places to live, work, play and invest - to the region’s federally-mandated implementation program of projects and actions. “People say we need a regional plan for Southwestern Pennsylvania, and that’s absolutely true. When we plan as a region, we create regionally significant opportunities,” said Jim Hassinger, Executive Director of the Southwestern Pennsylvania Commission (SPC). “SPC is very excited to be hosting this first-of-its-kind live Regional Town Meeting where participants can not only talk with their neighbors, but can also hear from people in other parts of the region. We encourage everyone to participate in developing our new regional plan by giving us their ideas and feedback on different growth and development scenarios for our region’s future.” This Regional Town Meeting will be broadcast live over the internet from the Regional Enterprise Tower in downtown Pittsburgh to 10 satellite locations around the region on Monday, February 12, 2007 from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. Meeting participants will have the opportunity to review computer-generated scenarios of future growth and development patterns. Maps and data for each scenario will show different ways in which our region could accommodate the new people, jobs and residences that will be added over the next 30 years. SPC encourages participants to review these different scenarios and discuss the pros and cons of each development pattern on your community and on the region as a whole. Each meeting location will be professionally facilitated, and each group’s feedback will be shared live with the other meetings across the region. Participants can talk with their neighbors and hear from people in other parts of the region. Their views and ideas will be used to develop the next regional plan for Southwestern Pennsylvania. Participate in person at any of the 11 Regional Town Meeting Locations Pittsburgh: Allegheny: Armstrong: Beaver: Butler: Fayette: Greene: Indiana: Lawrence: Washington: Westmoreland: Or log on to www.projectregion.org to watch the webcast and submit your thoughts and ideas online. Project Region is led by the Southwestern Pennsylvania Commission (SPC) and is conducted in partnership with a wide range of other public, private and non-profit organizations.
