Aliquippa School District Pedestrian Trails Project Aliquippa School District Improvements to two walkways / stairways that connect local sidewalks with Aliquippa High School, which is located at the top of a steep hillside. Improvements include grade changes, new steps and handrails, ramp structures, and lighting to provide a safe passage for students to walk to school. |
Armstong Trail Enhancements / Safe Routes to School Project Pedestrian access improvements including new sidewalks and crosswalks and ADA accessible curb cuts and ramps from the Armstrong Trail to the Kittanning Area Middle School and Senior High School. |
Rochester Road Pedestrian Corridor Enhancement Project Sidewalk and crosswalk improvements along Rochester Road (S.R. 3022) to connect the area's new Traditional Neighborhood Development with Haine School and the Township's municipal building. The project will include approximately 4,000 feet of sidewalk adjacent to the northern side of Rochester Road between Robinhood Drive and Hunting Ridge Trail. Decorative crosswalks will be installed at the major road intersections at Robinhood Drive, Haine School Road, and Wood Hollow Drive to facilitate safe pedestrian crossing. |
Core Area Streetscaping Streetscaping on Lawrence Avenue between 9th and 11th Streets including concrete curbs, sidewalks, lighting, landscaping, and street furniture to match other portions of the street. Also, improvements at the Fifth Street railroad underpass to include sandblasting/painting of superstructure columns, girders, and beams; installation of a facade treatment; art treatments to the interior sides of the underpass walls; and decorative lighting, benches, and planters. This underpass is on a pedestrian corridor leading to Lincoln High School. |
Ford Street Improvements Project Streetscape improvements along Ford Street between 5th Avenue and 3rd Avenue in Ford City Borough including sidewalks, ADA accessible ramps, street trees and grates, and lighting. This project is part of a comprehensive, multi-phase revitalization effort that will also include improvements along 4th Avenue, which is a direct route from Ford City Park to Ford City High School and the Public Library, and 5th Avenue. |
Indiana Streetscape and Economic Development Project Indiana Borough Streetscape improvements including sidewalks, street lights, landscaping, street trees, benches, and improved pedestrian crossings. Phase 1 streetscape improvements are part of a comprehensive revitalization initiative by Indiana Borough, Indiana University of Pennsylvania, & Downtown Indiana, Inc. and will extend along Philadelphia Street from Papermill Avenue to 8th Street. |
Underpasses at Anderson & Sandusky Streets Enhancement of the Anderson and Sandusky Street pedestrian underpasses on the City of Pittsburgh's North Side between General Robinson Street and North Canal Streets. The project includes installation of new lighting, sidewalks, curbs, and aesthetic improvements to the underpasses. Abutment walls will be cleaned, repaired, and coated. Steel fascia beams will be cleaned and painted; concrete fascia beams will be repaired; and covers will be installed on the columns at Anderson Street. A canopy is also proposed in each underpass. |
Oakland's Forbes/Fifth Ave Ped Safety & Mobility Improvements, Phase 2 Streetscape and pedestrian improvements at the Forbes Avenue intersections with McKee Place and Meyran Avenue in the Oakland area of Pittsburgh. The project will include new crosswalks, traffic control poles, street lights with banners and basket attachments, pedestrian signage, and sidewalks. In addition, new street lighting with banners and baskets along the entire street from McKee Place to the University footbridge east of Bouquet Street will be included. |
Fifth Forbes Public Space Improvements Streetscape improvements to the Fifth and Forbes corridors, between Smithfield Street and Stanwix Street, in Pittsburgh's Central Business District to complement planned mixed-use developments in the area. The project includes sidewalks, curbs, crosswalks, street lights, ADA ramps, and street trees. |
SR 837 Pedestrian and Student Safety Initiative Streetscape improvements including sidewalks, ADA ramps, crosswalks, lighting, and removal of obsolete trolley poles, which are a mobility and safety hazard, along S.R. 837. The focus of this effort is between 20th Street and 22nd Street, with the removal of obsolete trolley poles extending between 10th and 25th Streets. This area is a National Register and City of Pittsburgh Historic District, a DCED Main Street and Elm Street community, and was named a "Great American Main Street" by the National Trust for Historic Preservation. The project will also provide improved pedestrian and bicycle linkage between nearby Phillips Elementary School and the historic Carnegie Library branch. |
Brentwood Borough Public Stair Repair Project Repair of the East Francis Avenue Stairs, East Brentridge Avenue Stairs, and West Garden Avenue Stairs in the Borough of Brentwood to include removal of existing steps, replacement of unsuitable materials, installation of new steps and railings, site restoration, and concrete landings to improve pedestrian safety. These walkways are used by members of the Brentwood community including school children. The Brentwood Borough School District does not offer bus transportation to students; therefore, pedestrian traffic is high in this area. |
J.R. Taylor Memorial Bridge Construction of a 200' arched steel pedestrian bridge over Clifton Road near its intersection with McMurray Road. The bridge is on a spur of the Montour Trail and provides access to Washington School. This project is a public-private partnership with design being paid for, and many of the construction services being donated by, Century Steel Erectors Company and the J.R. Taylor Memorial Bridge Fund. |
Fifth Avenue - McKeesport Streetscape enhancements along Fifth Avenue in the City of McKeesport as part of a comprehensive revitalization of the downtown commercial district. Improvements will include sidewalks, crosswalks, ADA ramps, street lighting, benches, and street trees. |
Apollo Borough Downtown Beautification & Ped Safety Initiative Pedestrian safety and aesthetic improvements in Downtown Apollo to restore a community gateway from the PA Route 66 Bridge over the Kiskiminetas River. The project will include a gateway plaza, new walkways, improved lighting, and pedestrian kiosks. Pedestrian traffic in this area includes a 65-student preschool and a 62-unit elderly housing complex. |
Murrysville Streetscape Project Construction of sidewalks and curbs along Old William Penn Highway in the Municipality of Murrysville, between Barbara Redding Bridge and Gates Avenue, including decorative planter areas, street lighting and a pedestrian walkway connecting a nearby residential area. |
Irwin Borough Streetscape & Gateways Project, Phase I Streetscape improvements along the six blocks of Main Street from Pennsylvania Avenue to Water Avenue in the Borough of Irwin. Work will include curbs and sidewalks, overhead utility relocation, planters, street trees, lighting, and pedestrian safety enhancements. The intent of this project is to complete construction concurrent with sanitary and storm sewer reconstruction activities. Irwin is part of the Lincoln Highway Heritage Corridor, which has identified community gateway locations at the intersections of US Route 30 / 10th Street, Main Street / Pennsylvania Avenue, and Main Street / Water Street. Gateway improvements will include landscaping, lighting, signage, and other aesthetic treatments. |
Greensburg Hometown Streets, Phase 2 Replacement of existing sidewalks and curbs, utility relocation, and installation of planters, benches, period lighting, and street trees along West Otterman Street and College Avenue in the City of Greensburg. This project also includes improvements to an existing railroad overpass to improve pedestrian safety, security, and aesthetics in the area. West Otterman Street is part of the Lincoln Highway Heritage Corridor (U.S. 30). Many of these pedestrian improvements were identified as part of a Walkable Communities Workshop hosted by the local municipality. |
City of Latrobe Safe Routes to School Construction of sidewalks, raised crosswalks and curb extensions between Ligonier Street and Jefferson Street to improve pedestrian access and safety near Latrobe Elementary School. |
Donora Borough Steps & Sidewalk Improvements Sidewalk and stair improvements along Third and Fifth Streets in Donora Borough to improve pedestrian access and safety to Donora Elementary School. The project will include removal and replacement of sidewalks, steps, and railings. |
Hickory Streetscape Project Streetscape improvements along PA Route 50, which is "Main Street" through the town of Hickory. The project will include removal and replacement of existing sidewalks, installation of street trees, and installation of lamp posts between McCarrell and Washington Streets. In addition, the project will use private contributions for elements such as a main street signage program, crosswalks, a community clock, bus shelters, and a community garden. |
S.R. 21 High Street Waynesburg Streetscape Enhancements Streetscape improvements along High Street in Waynesburg Borough to include curbs, sidewalks, street lights, planters, and street trees. Phase 1 of this project will include the section of High Street (State Route 21) between Cumberland Street and Washington Street. This area is the Central Business District of Waynesburg and is centered on the historic Greene County Courthouse. The project is a collaborative effort of Waynesburg Borough, Waynesburg College, Greene County, and Waynesburg Prosperous & Beautiful. |
