Transportation Operations & Safety: Intelligent Transportation Systems
(ITS)
Advances in technology are enabling us to build
a smarter transportation system, permitting everyone to make better
travel decisions and experience fewer delays. ITS technology leads
to reduced traffic congestion, safer roads, smarter transit vehicles
and service, less wasted fuel, better air quality, and increased
capacity and functioning of our transportation systems.
One of the roles of SPCs Transportation Operations and Safety Committee is to bring together ITS stakeholders from across the region
to share information on current projects and future ITS applications
that will serve Southwestern Pennsylvanias transportation
users.
Regional ITS Architecture Report
In December 2004, SPC adopted a Regional ITS Architecture (PDF Format, 3.66 MB). This document, developed under the Pennsylvania Intelligent Transportation Systems
(ITS) Architecture initiative, presents the ITS Architecture for Pennsylvania’s Southwestern Region. The report is the result of intensive data-gathering, research, and
planning activities conducted between March 2003 and November 2004. The current
version of the ITS Architecture was generated in November 2004.

have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed. If you don’t have Acrobat Reader,
it’s available as a free download from Adobe.
