Armstrong Trail Mahoning North Project Completion of 4.6 miles of non-motorized trail connecting the village of Rimer with the existing 15 miles of the Armstrong Trail south of Mahoning Creek. This link is part of a proposed 52.5-mile Armstrong Trail and is envisioned as part of a regional trail network connecting Lake Erie and Pittsburgh. The project is located on a former Conrail Railroad corridor on the east bank of the Allegheny River and will pass through remote areas that offer great scenic views of the Allegheny River Valley. |
Predictive Model & Treatment Plan for Late Woodland Sites Development of predictive models and treatment plans for the discovery and investigation of Late Woodland prehistoric sites (A.D. 800-1600) in watersheds from three physiographic provinces across the Commonwealth. Late Woodland sites typically are the most expensive of all sites to excavate and can seriously impact transportation and other development projects. The goal of this project is to develop new approaches to streamline environmental investigations. |
Ghost Town Trail Extension, Phase III Construction of the last two remaining bridge structures over Blacklick Creek. Once completed the Blairsville Secondary Trail Network will be a continuous 60-mile trail between Indiana and Ebensburg. This project begins approximately 2 miles west of Dilltown and extends to the existing trailhead facility in Dilltown. The Indiana County Parks Department will construct the two-mile section of trail using their own work force and funds. Existing stone abutments for the structures can be salvaged with some modifications and repairs, but a completely new superstructure and deck surface will be provided on both structures. Appropriate fencing will be placed on both structures and their approaches for safety purposes. |
Roaring Run Trail Phase IV Construction of a 1.5-mile extension to the existing 2.5-mile Roaring Run Trail. The project will include clearing existing ditches and installing a proper drainage system; preparing and grading the existing surface; applying a crushed limestone top surface; erosion control; and, installation of 600' of rail fencing to address safety. A previously completed Transportation Enhancement project in this area included construction of a trailhead and the 1.5-mile Rock Furnace Trail spur, which along with the Roaring Run Trail, are components of the Pittsburgh-to-Harrisburg Millennium Legacy Greenway Trail. |
Westmoreland Heritage Trail - C.R. C6407 to Slickville Construction of the 2.5-mile section of the Westmoreland Heritage Trail between County Road 6407 in Loyalhanna Township and State Route 819 in the town of Slickville, Salem Township. The project is located in the corridor of the former Turtle Creek Branch of the Pennsylvania Railroad. The project includes total construction of the trail beginning with clearing and grubbing, grading, drainage, piping, trail surfacing and signage. |
Lincoln Highway Welcome Center, Phase 2 Development of a 6-acre site at the intersection of U.S. 30 and State Route 259 in Ligonier to tell the story of the historic Lincoln Highway. The site will include a 1938 filling station, two tourist cabins, and a remnant of the original Lincoln Highway. A 1938 diner will be moved to the site and new museum / welcome center will be constructed. |
Train Station Visitors Center Phase 3 Completion of the West Newton Train Station Visitors Center including parking, lighting, landscaping, walkways, and signage. The project is located in West Newton Borough along Collinsburg Road on the west side of the bridge over the Youghiogheny River. The Visitor Center will serve as both a trail hub and headquarters for the Regional Trail Corporation. |
Five Star Trail Extension (Youngwood to Scottdale) Completion of the non-motorized Five Star Trail from Youngwood to Scottdale in Westmoreland County. This trail will connect to the Jacob's Creek Multi-Use Trail in Scottdale. The project includes trail surface construction, drainage improvements and construction of a small bridge over Stauffer Run. Another bridge in this section is located in New Stanton and is being funded through DCNR and local funding sources. |
Sheepskin Rail Trail Construction of a 10.4-mile rail-with-trail section that will be part of a 32-mile trail in Fayette County. The Sheepskin Trail follows the abandoned Penn Central and B&O/CSX railroad lines and the active Southwest Pennsylvania Railroad and will link with the Youghiogheny River Trail, which is part of the Great Allegheny Passage. The trail will link numerous municipalities including Dunbar Township, Dunbar Borough, North Union Township, South Union Township and Uniontown. |
Browns Run Trail Phase 1 Construction of a non-motorized trail, including 3 bridges, between State Route 21 and Short Cut Road in German Township near the village of Ronco. The trail's route will take bicyclists and pedestrians past the Lardin House, home of some of the earliest leaders of western America and a documented stop on the Underground Railroad, and the Andrew Rabb Farm, home to a leader of the Whiskey Rebellion and location of an early grist mill. The Rabb Farm is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. |
Greene River Trail, Phase III Construction of 3.1 miles of non-motorized trail beginning at the Jessop Boat Club in Cumberland Township and extending to the end of State Route 1006, along the right-of-way of the former Monongahela Railroad. Ultimately, this linear park will stretch along the entire 25-mile length of the Monongahela River in Greene County and will extend south to Point Marion where it will connect with the Sheepskin Trail in Fayette County. This network of trails will serve to link the West Virginia Trail System in Morgantown with the Great Allegheny Passage between Pittsburgh and Washington, DC. |
Museum Facilities Upgrades for Fire Suppression, Wheelchair Access & Collection Preservation Construction of dry-pipe sprinkler fire suppression systems in the Pennsylvania Trolley Museum's Visitor Education Center, Trolley Restoration Shop, and Trolley Display Carhouse. The project will also include concrete flooring, a maintenance pit, and gutters/downspouts in the Trolley Display Carhouse and concrete paving in the adjoining trolley car yard. This project will help PTM protect and maintain its collection, enhancing its ability to attract and educate additional visitors. The sprinkler system will provide a high level of fire security for the remainder of PTM's collection of irreplaceable streetcars. |
West Penn Railways Trolley Car 832 Rehabilitation Rehabilitation of West Penn Railways Trolley Car #832, which was built in 1930 and once operated in Allegheny, Fayette and Westmoreland Counties. The Pennsylvania Trolley Museum (PTM) will reconstruct and rehabilitate this vintage trolley car for operational use on its demonstration trolley line. The project will also help PTM attract visitors from Allegheny, Westmoreland and Fayette Counties, where car 832 once operated for West Penn Railways. TE funds will be used to leverage an additional $15,000 in cash and approximately $280,000 in donated materials, utility costs and services for this project. |
Montour Trail Phase 19, Morganza Bridge Construction of a pedestrian and bicycle bridge to carry the Montour Trail over Morganza Road (S.R. 1009) in the village of Hendersonville, Cecil Township, Washington County. The east-west alignment of the Montour Trail crosses Morganza Road at an offset five-way intersection. The proposed bridge will enable Montour Trail users to be grade-separated from vehicular traffic, thus improving both trail and highway safety. |
Montour Trail - Phase 8A2 Library Viaduct Structural rehabilitation, removal of existing ties, cleaning, painting, concrete deck construction, and metal fence installation on the 506-foot plate girder bridge built in 1919 as part of the Montour Railroad. The project is located at Library Road (State Route 88) in the West Library section of South Park Township. |
Mon Wharf Landing & Smithfield Street Switchback Construction of a switchback ramp rising approximately forty feet from the Mon Wharf Landing along the Monongahela River to the intersection of Fort Pitt Boulevard and the Smithfield Street Bridge. The switchback will be ADA-accessible and will be located approximately 200 yards upriver from Point State Park and directly downriver from the Eliza Furnace Trail. The ramp structure will provide a critical connection between the Eliza Furnace Trail and Point State Park and will help link Oakland and eastern trails to the Great Allegheny Passage. |
Convention Center Riverfront Park Development of an inaccessible stretch of urban shoreline between the David L. Lawrence Convention Center and the Allegheny River into an active public space for walkers, runners, bicyclists and others traveling throughout the city. The project will connect Pittsburgh's Strip District to Point State Park, providing a safe conduit for non-motorized travel to many of Pittsburgh's attractions. The site will be accessible through the 10th Street Water Garden underneath the Convention Center and will connect with existing trails as part of the Three Rivers Park System. The plan includes a cantilevered riverwalk, a bio-engineered slope, a boat landing, and bi-level access from the roadway to the riverfront. |
Bates Street / Eliza Furnace Trail Bridge Replacement Replacement of an existing low clearance railroad bridge currently carrying the Eliza Furnace Trail over Bates Street. The replacement will be a higher and longer span pedestrian bridge to allow for proper clearances and for the widening of Bates Street to five lanes. In addition to the bridge and approach components, other project elements will include sidewalks, landscaping scenic overlooks benches, lighting, and pedestrian signage, to enhance the portal nature of the location and improve the connections to the bridge. |
Edgewood Railroad Station Rehabilitation Phase 2 renovation of a National Register-eligible Pennsylvania Railroad (PRR) station in the Borough of Edgewood. The station includes a small baggage depot and was constructed circa 1905 by the PRR as part of the line that ran between Philadelphia and Chicago. The building site and exterior are being completely renovated and the interior is being prepared for future build out. Work includes a new roof, remediation of asbestos shingles, gutters and downspouts, brick repairs, new doors, window repairs, painting of the exterior, ADA accessible restrooms, ceiling and wall repairs, new HVAC, exterior lighting, landscaping, platform repairs, new railings, and wrought iron canopy supports. The Edgewood Railroad Station is in close proximity to the Edgewood Borough Building and may, with other nearby structures, form a historic district. |
SRU Community Walk - Bike - Sidewalk Construction of approximately two miles of sidewalk and pedestrian lighting to provide a pedestrian/cyclist connection from the southeastern end of Slippery Rock University campus and nearby residential areas to Downtown Slippery Rock. This project is a collaborative effort of Slippery Rock Borough, Slippery Rock Township, Butler County, and Slippery Rock University. Slippery Rock High School and Middle School are also in this area. |
Frick Park Trail Extension Construction of a non-motorized trail between the new residential development Summerset at Frick Park, to near Old Brown's Hill Road and the Monongahela River. The proposed trail is approximately 2,500 feet in length and will follow existing topography. It will connect with the Great Allegheny Passage between Pittsburgh and Washington, DC. |
